Christ the Redeemer
A very notable masterpiece in Brazil,
Christ the Redeemer is an Art Deco sculpture of Jesus Christ. It was made by
French stone worker Paul Landowski and worked by Brazilian specialist Heitor da
Silva Costa, as a team with the French architect Albert Caquot. Romanian stone
worker Gheorghe Leonida molded the face. Made of fortified cement and
soapstone, it weighs 635 metric tons and is situated at the pinnacle of the
700-meter Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park sitting above
the city of Rio de Janeiro. Development started in 1922 and it was finished in
1931.
